Countryfresh lamb ‘GOLD’

Prime lambs processed at Tamworth’s Peel Valley Exports and exhibited by Countryfresh Lamb have won a gold medal at one of the most prestigious shows of its kind – the 2011 Royal Queensland Food and Wine Show.
The award will also be used to launch a new brand – labelled New England Gold MSA (Meat Standards Australia) lamb.
Countryfresh commercial manager Jono Bayes said New England Gold Brand would be the first branded lamb ever graded under the MSA grading system Australia-wide.
“The brand will give us the best lambs from across the New England, with a trademark tailored to the highest of lamb eating quality,” he said.
Mr Bayes said the New England was an ideal source for prime lambs.
“The lambs are there, the quality is there, and we have two processing plants very handy, which minimises the stress and (loss of) condition on our lambs,” he said.
Winning the award would put Countryfresh lamb on the domestic map, Mr Bayes said.
Silver and bronze medals were awarded to the Strelitz family’s Milly Hill Lamb from Armidale.
