Sale of Port Pirie Abattoir
Friday, July 7, 2006T&R Pastoral is a family company and one of Australia's largest meat processors.
T&R Director Darren Thomas confirmed that the purchase of the business included only the assets - the land and buildings - of the Port Pirie facility.
Pat Conroy said staff had been made aware of the sale and they would be paid their full entitlements. He said that all legitimate invoices from suppliers to the business would also be paid.
In the coming weeks T&R Pastoral would assess the short to medium term options for the Port Pirie abattoir.
"In the meantime we will give all former Conroy employees the opportunity to apply for employment at one of our processing plants located at Murray Bridge or Lobethal," added Mr Thomas.
"We have been looking for new employees to begin a second slaughtering shift from July 17 at our Murray Bridge plant."
Mr Conroy said he wanted to recognise and thank his Port Pirie management and staff.
"Importantly, I want to wish them every success in their future endeavours".
