T&R Pastoral increases US market share
Friday, November 27, 2009Foodcomm International and T&R Pastoral are pleased to announce they have entered into an agreement whereby Australian owned T&R Pastoral will acquire 50% of Foodcomm International, a global import and distribution Company, operating primarily in the USA. With this investment, Foodcomm will quickly exceed revenues of USD $200 million. The Company will remain based in Palo Alto, California with distribution facilities throughout North America.
Darren Thomas, CEO of T&R said “This represents a major commitment to the Australian livestock industry by T&R and a significant boost to rural Australia and in particular rural South Australia.” Mr. Thomas expects this transaction to further underpin his companies’ growth and provide jobs growth and valuable export dollars for South Australia.
Mr. Thomas added ”By taking greater control of our product and working closer with the end users we aim to increase our market share in North America, this in turn will provide a sustainable marketing option for our suppliers of livestock throughout Australia.”
Foodcomm International has been one of the leading importers of Australian Chilled Beef and Lamb, as well as Mutton and Goat, in North America for over 20 years. Foodcomm CEO, Greg Bourke said he was excited by the newly formed partnership. “This will give our customers in North America a greater surety of supply.” Mr. Bourke also stated that “T&R has shown the capability, focus, and commitment to food safety required to service the North American market. They have made significant investments in state of the art meat processing facilities. T&R has been able to grow its business four fold over the past decade, when the industry has gone through mass rationalisation and closures.”
T&R Pastoral has two major plants located in South Australia and future plans for a third in Western Australia. T&R has revenues approaching AUD 600 million and employs over 1,500 people. They process 800 Cattle per day and 14,500 sheep and lambs per day making T&R arguably Australia’s largest small stock processor. Their products include, high quality chilled grain and grass-fed Beef, Lamb, Mutton, Goat, and by-products for the domestic and international markets.
Foodcomm International markets naturally raised meat to Retail grocery chains and Food Service distributors. Foodcomm’s long track record of success comes from supporting their customers with consistent quality, value, and service.
